The Authorial Illustrator
The Authorial Illustrator presents the discussion and work of an array of the world’s leading authorial illustration talent. The book examines illustration where the illustrator has taken responsibility for the development of the concepts in their work. It seeks to reassert illustration as a developing practice, working against the tendency for the discipline of illustration to be seen as a repetitive commodity where the illustrator is presented with an already clearly defined concept. The Authorial Illustrator traces the ten years of the renowned Falmouth Illustration Forum which has annually presented a theme exploring a different facet of authorial illustration practice. Each year has shed light on a different aspect of the work of an authorial illustrator, the development of an illustrator’s individual voice and the assertion of their personal characteristics of authorship.
‘I think what you’re doing is really important, in redefining and re-validating illustration as a profession.’ Jonathon Rosen
